Time Warner Cable (TWC) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) announced today a $150,000 grant to support STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) internships as part of CHCI’s Summer Congressional Internship Program (CIP) for 2013-2015.  The CIP offers up to 40 college undergraduates of Hispanic descent from across the country the unprecedented opportunity to complete an eight-week paid congressional internship and gain real-world experience working in Washington, D.C. for a member of Congress. TWC’s support allows them to help choose four interns each summer who are pursuing degrees in STEM fields to be part of the summer internship class.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute in encouraging Latino youth to become the leaders of tomorrow,” said Fernando Laguarda, Vice President of External Affairs and Policy Counselor for Time Warner Cable. “This partnership furthers our goal of emphasizing the importance of STEM subjects as well as the impact they have on the future of our country.”

“We thank Time Warner Cable for their strong support of CHCI’s work and for continuing to support Congressional STEM Internships, giving young Latinos an opportunity to pursue careers in a critical area of our workforce that is currently underrepresented,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO.  “This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for college undergraduates enhances their leadership abilities, strengthens their professional skills, and provides access to national leaders and key policy makers that will help shape their future careers.”
