These days, telenovelas are sending a serious message in Texas. The Texas Department of Transportation is using their unique style and mass appeal to connect with the Latino community.

“They resonate with the Hispanic community,” said Tracie Mendez of TxDOT.  “We love them.”

The department has created three public service announcements which are each two minutes in length.  They have the look and feel of a telenovela, with the anti-drinking and driving message of TxDOT. In one of the clips, parents learn that their son was involved in a crash and that his drinking caused it.
