Telemundo 40 Rio Grande Valley / KTLM today announced that Joeseph Martinez has been named Weather Anchor for Noticias Telemundo 40 fin de semana. Martinez, whose first day with Telemundo 40 is today, joins News Anchor Ana Cecilia Mendez, Sports Anchor Hector Zapata and an enterprising and dynamic team of reporters to help provide Spanish-speaking viewers in the Rio Grande Valley the most-up-to-date local breaking news and weather forecasts. Martinez will make his on-air debut in late February 2016.

Martinez joins Telemundo 40 after concluding his Broadcast Meteorology internship at Puerto Rico TV / WIPR in 2015. Before this, Martinez also conducted climatology research at the National Weather Service in Brownsville, Texas. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Puerto Rico and is a member of the American Meteorological Society, Puerto Rico chapter.

Since being acquired by NBCUniversal in January 2014, Telemundo 40 has boosted expanded live news coverage with a weekday half-hour local newscast at 4:30 PM, resumed local programming of two half-hour weekday newscasts at 5 PM and 10 PM and two half-hour weekend newscasts at 4:30 PM and 10 PM. To support the boost in local news, the station has added new anchors, reporters, producers and newsroom staff and with the expanded newscasts.
