Firm Has Invested Nearly $3 Million in Program to Support Diverse Talent Over Past Decade

PwC LLP (PwC) has awarded 81 eXceed scholarships to diverse students from 56 colleges and universities across the United States for the 2010-2011 academic year. Since the program began in 1990, PwC has given nearly $3 million in eXceed scholarships to hundreds of talented minority students.

PwC eXceed is an annual scholarship program for minority college students in their freshman, sophomore or junior year with strong academic standing and career interests in accounting, computer information systems, finance, economics, actuarial sciences and management information technology. Students become eligible to apply for a $3,000 scholarship when they accept an offer to complete PwC’s Summer of Discovery Internship (SDI), a unique internship designed to broaden interest among minority students in the accounting profession and create a pipeline for diverse talent at the firm.

SDI interns collaborate and work with partners and staff from different functional areas across PwC on real client projects. This allows the interns to experience the business and learn about life at the firm from the inside. The leadership development and experience they gain position them for high performance and serve as a launching point for long-term careers.

“PwC is committed to helping talented students work toward and achieve their professional goals,” said Niloufar Molavi, chief diversity officer, PwC. “Our continued investment in programs such as SDI and eXceed ensures that we build a strong pipeline of diverse talent and offer opportunities for students to build a rewarding career in public accounting.”

“SDI not only helps students sharpen essential technical skills, but more importantly provides coaching and broader career development that enable high-potential minority students to build a foundation for future success,” added Aisha Washington, U.S. diversity sourcing leader, PwC.

Eighteen schools had at least two scholarship winners, while four schools – The University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Bentley University, Binghamton University and Brigham Young University – each had three recipients.
