Special Enrollment Period type

A Special Enrollment Period (SEP) is a time outside the yearly Open Enrollment Period when you can sign up for health insurance. You can still enroll in or change a 2022 health insurance in 2 ways:

  • A Special Enrollment Period due to a life change – If you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to a life event such as losing other coverage, getting married, or having a baby.
  • Medicaid, CHIP, or a new SEP based on income – If you qualify for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). You can apply at any time.
