South Florida Community Advocate, Rixys Alfonso, has been named as one of the 2012 “Hispanic Women of Distinction.”

A prominent South Florida public relations and fund-raising professional, Rixys Alfonso will be honored at this year’s 11th Annual Hispanic Women of Distinction Luncheon, benefiting the Light of the World Clinic.  Among a group of 12 of South Florida’s most inspirational and successful women, Alfonso is being honored for all of her accomplishments at this luncheon for 1,000 guests taking place on Friday, August 17th at The Signature Grand in Davie, FL from 11-2pm.

With more than 12 years of professional experience in public and corporate relations, child advocacy and charitable fund-raising, you may now know Rixys Alfonso as the Director of Corporate Relations for the Dan Marino Foundation, and the current Chair of the Communications Committee for the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC).  However, Alfonso has always had a passion to help others reach their goals and aspirations.

“From taking refuge in the Peruvian Embassy in 1980 to protest Cuba’s Communist regime which led to the Mariel Boatlift and fleeing to the US to attain the American dream, to championing a lifelong campaign to save my son’s life and help other families fighting rare diseases affecting children, my endless passion has allowed me to help so many people across South Florida and the world,” said Alfonso. “My motto is to never let difficulties or challenges get in my way, and I’m always working toward improving myself, my family and my community.”
