DENVER, CO – For the second year in a row Mobile Accord’s mGive program has renewed its Hispanic CSR program to help the Fundacion Teleton MexAmerica raise funds through $10 donations made via cell phone during a two-day national telethon carried live on U.S. Spanish language cable network Galavision. The event will reach more than five million cable subscribers on December 4-5.
Fundacion Teleton MexAmerica was founded in 2002 as the U.S. branch of an event conducted annually in Mexico since 1997. The mission of the Teleton is to build and operate medical care, rehabilitation, and diagnosis centers in Mexico, with special focus on poor children with neuromusculoskeletal disabilities. Teleton also promotes integration into society for these children. Fundacion Teleton today operates 13 rehabilitation centers serving 15,000 children.
In 2008, mGive partnered with Teleton MexAmerica, providing technology and support to raise almost $77,000 in text donations, more than was raised online. Through mGive, Teleton created a list of 15,000 mobile donors in one day.
Once again this year, text message donations will be promoted with a call to action displayed on a scroll bar at the bottom of the screen during the telethon, and emphasized during on-screen performances. Viewers will be asked to make a $10 donation by sending the text message TELETON to 90999 from their mobile phones. Shortly after sending the message, donors will receive a return message asking for confirmation. To confirm the contribution, the donor simply texts “yes,” adding the donation to his or her next cell phone bill.
Mobile Accord founder and Chairman James Eberhard said, “We are delighted to partner with Teleton MexAmerica again this year. Mobile donations played an important role in the 2008 telethon, and we look forward to another impressive result for this worthy cause in 2009.”
