The editors of Hispanic Engineer & Information Technology magazine (HE&IT) have selected Jose A. Marquez-Leon of Latinos in Information Sciences and Technology Association as one of the “Top 200 Most Influential Hispanics in Technology.” This select list, which previously recognized some of the top 100 Hispanics in technology, was expanded to reflect the increasing role that technology plays in our everyday lives.
With the astonishing national high school drop-out rate of our Hispanic youth and our current administration’s emphasis on innovating ourselves out of the recession, we must recognize the necessity of promoting positive Hispanic role models in these critical fields of study.
Several profiles of the “Top 200 Most Influential Hispanics in Technology” will be featured in the spring edition of HE&IT magazine, which is scheduled for release in April 2011. Companies that are represented in the “Top 200″ will also be invited to participate in the Hispanic 200 Leadership Summit in Orlando, Florida on June 10, 2011. This summit, which is part of Career Communication Group’s Alumni Retreat weekend, will feature a dinner and reception recognizing the “Top 200 Most Influential Hispanics in Technology,” along with several seminars and other networking opportunities.
The “Top 200″ features individuals in a variety of sectors: Automotive, Finance and Defense to Energy, Retail and Pharmaceuticals, and all industries in between. Companies represented in the “Top 200″ include General Motors, LISTA, Boeing, Google, Verizon, Facebook, and many others.
This year LISTA has been fortunate to have 2 other members recognized on this list, LISTA National Chair Tony Jimenez and Goldman Sachs Vice President and President of LISTA New York Tech Council Roberto Abreu.
Extensive research was done on thousands of employees from various corporations and government agencies. HE&IT editors then evaluated and selected the “Top 200″ based on excellence in their work, strong commitment to their communities, and leadership as role models.
