Gina Rodriguez, star of the hit comedy series “Jane the Virgin,” took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy or Musical, on Sunday night.

The 30-year-old actress, whose parents are Puerto Rican, paid homage to the Hispanic community during her acceptance speech.

“”This award is so much more than myself,” Rodriguez said. “It represents a culture that wants to see itself as heroes.”

Rodriguez, who also starred as the title character in the film “Filly Brown,” explained the significance of the win for her during backstage interviews.

“”First and foremost, the nomination alone was a win for me because it allowed our culture, it allowed Latinos to see themselves in a beautiful light,”Rodriguez said. “For me, the win meant everything.”
