The Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) will honor Hispanic industry leaders and recognize the best in Hispanic public relations campaigns at its 28th Annual PRemio Awards and Scholarships Gala to be held Wednesday, October 4 at Cicada in Los Angeles.
This year’s HPRA PR Professional of the Year is Lucia Matthews, CEO of DIÁLOGO. Matthews founded DIÁLOGO in 2006 four years after arriving from Mexico. Today, the firm has offices in San Diego, New York and Mexico City, and is a leading public relations and social marketing firm that builds brands with Hispanic audiences. Matthews is an active leader in numerous organizations that seek to improve Latinos’ access to education and business resources. She serves on the Advisory Board of Directors at California Diversity Council and the Oversight Board at San Diego Community College District.
“HPRA increases the value of public relations as this industry continues to gain influence,” said Matthews. “I am so honored to join the long list of dedicated communicators who have also have received this incredible honor.”
Other awards include Corporation of the Year winner Univision Network, Journalist of the Year winner Pilar Marrero, a reporter and editor for La Opinión, and Young PR Professional of the Year Cynthia Cruz with iolo Technologies.
In addition, HPRA’s 2012 Campaign of the Year winners will also be announced that evening. Also, as a way to foster Hispanic talent, HPRA will present thousands of dollars in scholarships to Hispanic students pursuing a career in Public Relations and related communications fields. The scholarship program was founded 22 years ago, and HPRA-LA has awarded more than $230,000 to Hispanic students entering the field.
