“Color your nails. Change the world.” that’s the mission of SquareHue, a Hispanic-owned online, nail polish subscription service on a mission. A slew of young startups have embraced subscription models, and SquareHue has done the same. Customers receive a box of items at their doorstep every month and their members are surprised with three luxurious, limited edition colors. The brand has set its standards high and delivers a 5-free clean formula, one of the cleanest in the industry, cruelty-free, vegan-friendly and proudly made in the USA. But what makes SquareHue unique from all the other subscription based models is that SquareHue was intentionally created with the purpose of funding organizations that are changing the world. Currently a portion of all monthly subscription proceeds are donated for prevention awareness, protection of trafficked victims and prosecution of human traffickers, through The A21 Campaign. The SquareHue founders are quick to point out that they came across the business idea not because of a deep love for nail polish, even though they have grown in love with their polishaholic members, but out of a desperate attempt to help people. CoFounder and Creative Director, George Cuevas explains, “We did everything that every business book tells you not to do! Instead of writing a business plan, we did the opposite. We literally made a list of what we could NOT do. We had no money. We had no storage space. We had no time. We had no product.” These shortcomings fueled their desire to find an answer versus just giving up.   What inspired this entrepreneurship? Four friends, a Cuban, a Brazilian, a Peruvian and an American (Cuban descent) were moved with compassion as they volunteered to host various cause-based organizations for a large event in Miami. They hosted the likes of charity: water, Feed My Starving Children, Compassion International and of course The A21 Campaign. Upon meeting and interacting with the organizations, they knew something had changed within them. They could not return to their daily work routine and ignore the needs of those suffering in the global landscape. In two short years SquareHue has already donated nearly $30,000 to organizations like The A21 Campaign, PolishedGirlz, and local organizations like Touching Miami with Love. It is evident that the more SquareHue grows, the more they can give. They have recently applied for the Mission Main Street grant from Chase Bank. Their plans for the additional funding is to create an entirely new retail line to be made available online and in stores.
