The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Foundation has announced that 20 small businesses from the New York metropolitan were chosen to participate in the national Green Builds Business Program that took place on Long Island this week.
Green Builds Business is a two-day program, underwritten by Walmart, which provides Hispanic business owners training and education on best practices for lowering operating costs, increasing revenues and motivating workers by incorporating green sustainable efforts into their overall business plans. Â Green Builds Business, co-hosted by the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (LIHCC), took place on September 7 and 8, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Wickers Restaurant in Hicksville.
“Metropolitan New York is one of the epi-centers of business in this country,” says Javier Palomarez, USHCC President and CEO, “and subsequently helps set the trend for business practices nationwide. Â Our Green Builds Business program will provide Hispanic business owners unparalleled training and education surrounding successful green business practices so that they can help lead the tri-state area toward an even more diverse and environmentally sound business model.”
The USHCC Foundation selected 20 New York-based small businesses to participate in two one-day workshops. Â The workshops focused on best practices for: pricing, marketing and branding strategies that grow green revenues; reducing environmental footprints and operating costs; and motivating associates through opportunities that benefit the company and the planet.
“Our Long Island Chamber is made up of a truly dedicated and talented group of Hispanic Business Enterprises,” says Luis Lopez, President of LIHCC. “There is no doubt that with the training and tools the Green Builds Business program provides, these business owners will make a lasting difference on the environment and surrounding community.”
At least one business from the program will be selected to receive up to 24 hours of one-on-one green coaching to formulate a green business plan or implement a green project that holds the potential of creating jobs, growing profits and reducing emissions this year. Coaching will be provided by Bill Roth, Green Business Coach for Entrepreneur.com and Founder of Earth 2017.
