FOX Deportes closed the month of May again as the leading Spanish sports cable network in total viewers and adults 18-49 across key day-parts, including total day, primetime and weekend day, according to Nielsen Media Research.
“U.S. Latino sports fans deserve and search for the most exciting and highest caliber sports entertainment, and we are uniquely positioned to provide it,” said Vincent Cordero, Executive Vice President and General Manager, FOX Deportes. “Our dedication to provide the best events exclusively, the most entertaining and informative news and talk original programs and an unparalleled premium online experience underlies our viewers’ loyalty to FOX Deportes.”
The franchise news and talk programs, Central Fox and La Última Palabra, continued to contribute to the network’s strong performance. In May, Central Fox increased viewership +17% among adults 18-49, while La Última Palabra increased its viewership +55% in adults 18-49 vs. prior year. Driven by these significant increases, Central Fox and La Última Palabra finished May as the No. 1 sports news and soccer talk programs (Monday-Friday) among adults 18-49 in Spanish sports cable. This marks the fourth consecutive month that FOX Deportes is No. 1 in both sports news and soccer talk.
Additionally, FOX Deportes aired seven of the top ten sports programs in Spanish cable in total viewers and adults 18-49. FOX Deportes’ exclusive Spanish language coverage of the UEFA Champions League Final featuring Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich on May 25 held the No. 1 spot among all Spanish Cable sports programs averaging a 6.9 coverage household (HH) rating with 689,000 viewers and 447,000 adults 18-49. In addition, coverage of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinal match between Atlético Mineiro and Club Tijuana on May 30 averaged 572,000 viewers and 333,000 adults 18-49.
FOX Deportes’ social media presence also experienced growth by engaging with the broader FOX Deportes fan community throughout the month. The FOX Deportes Facebook page received 120,000 new “Likes,” ending May with over 1.6 million. FOX Deportes now has over 1.2 million more Facebook “Likes” than its nearest competitor in U.S. Spanish cable sports.
