ESPN has split the temporary simulcast of Sports WEPN-A-F/NEW YORK as planned, with the AM side going Spanish Sports as ESPN DEPORTES NUEVA YORK 1050AM and the FM side continuing with the English-language ESPN NEW YORK 98.7FM format.
The ESPN DEPORTES programming starts TODAY at 2p (ET), after a day of airing a loop in both languages directing English-language listeners to the FM side and touting the new format in Spanish. ESPN RADIO’s MIKE GREENBERG and MIKE GOLIC will make a special announcement at the changeover, followed by appearances by ESPN DEPORTES RADIO hosts and play-by-play of three WORLD CUP qualifying matches, starting with COLOMBIA vs. URUGUAY at 4p (ET).
The launch is being accompanied by the announcement that the station will carry Spanish-language play-by-play of NEW YORK JETS football. “We are thrilled to add the NEW YORK JETS to our solid roster of play-by-play offerings just in time for our launch,” said GM DAVID ROBERTS. “There is tremendous passion for the NFL among the Hispanic community of NEW YORK, and this alliance with an elite franchise will further position 1050AM as the Spanish-language audio destination for the Hispanic sports fan in NEW YORK.”
“Partnering with ESPN DEPORTES RADIO NUEVA YORK 1050 AM is great for our organization and our fans,” said JETS Pres. NEIL GLAT. “This relationship enables us to continue to bring our games and our team to an important and growing segment of our fan base.”
