Sling Latino TV (subsidiary of Dish Networks) has launched Sling Latino TV, a standalone, OTT (“over-the-top” or “streaming”) service aimed squarely at Spanish-dominant and bilingual “cord cutters” and “cord nevers.” In other words, at Latino viewers who prefer to stream TV on their computers and devices instead of with traditional cable or satellite services. Cutting the cord is a major trend among technically savvy latinos, especially millennials, and Sling Latino plays right into that trend. The basic package costs only $7 / month (less than one Adult move ticket), and includes 14 channels of LIVE television. No other OTT service offers LIVE programming like this. Programming includes Univision. In addition, programming channels will include programming from LATAM countries. Interestingly, Latino viewers in the US like viewing content on their computers and devices. Currently, according to a recent study by YouMe, Starcom and MediaVest,:
- 64% of Latinos own smartphones
- 47% own tablets
- 72% own computers
