Discovery U.S. Hispanic, which includes Spanish-language networks Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia, announced today that it will support the Hispanic Communications Conference organized by Florida International University’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication through online elements as well as with the participation of Amaury Blondet, Digital Manager for Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic, as a panelist. The event will take place on Nov. 7-8 at the university’s Biscayne Bay Campus and will feature Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez as well as Hispanic Marketing expert Isabel Valdés as keynote speakers.

“At Discovery U.S. Hispanic we are deeply committed to supporting and furthering conversations around the evolving Hispanic consumer and how to best meet their needs as we continue to strive to offer high-quality content that resonates with our viewers,” said Bilai Joa Silar, Vice President and Content Director for Discovery U.S. Hispanic networks.

In a panel on environmental and community issues, Blondet will discuss Discovery digital platforms such as the online green initiative, Treehugger (www.treehugger.com), which features interactive content and top news stories about the environment and sustainable development, and Discovery Ayuda (www.discoveryayuda.com) an online initiative to raise awareness of problems in the community by promoting social projects led by Discovery and other companies.

The conference is the second event in the SJMC’s Hispanic Communication Conference series, bringing scholars and industry leaders from the fields of advertising, public relations and marketing together to share their insights into the culture and behavior of Hispanic consumers. The 2013 symposium will also address strategies employed in engaging Hispanics in health, environmental and political communication. The two-day event will feature panel discussions as well as workshops and student presentations. For more information and to register, please visit: http://hcc2013.com.
