WASHINGTON, DC – LATINA Style, the premier magazine addressing the needs of professional Latinas in the U.S., will host the 6th annual National LATINA Symposium on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at the JW Marriott hotel in Washington D.C. from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. The Symposium provides a national platform for Latina entrepreneurs and professional working women to address the status of the Hispanic woman in the United States.
The Honorable Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) is the chair for this year’s Symposium. A recognized leader on national security, intelligence, and counterterrorism issues, Congresswoman Sanchez serves as the Vice Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Border, Maritime, and Global Counterterrorism. The event is open to the public and attended by Latina leaders from corporate America, the government and military, the Symposium will feature three exciting panels: Leadership Under Fire, Your Health – Your Future, and Nurturing Latina Success. These groundbreaking workshops will feature some of the most prominent Latina Leaders in the nation.
The Symposium will conclude with the Distinguished Military Service Awards Luncheon, co-hosted with the Department of Defense. During the luncheon, Latinas representing each branch of the Armed Forces will be honored for their excellence in service.
The day will culminate with the LATINA Style flagship event — the Anna Maria Arias Memorial Business Fund Gala. This unique event, a tribute to the memory and vision of our late publisher, marks the 15th anniversary of LATINA Style and will launch Washington’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. The Fund provides senior executive education grants to selected Latina business owners from across the country that have distinguished themselves through their business success and community involvement. The award recipients will be showcased during the AMAMBF Gala awards dinner taking place from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm in Washington, DC on September 9, 2009, at the JW Marriott located at 1331 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C. 2004. This is funny. Loretta is maybe not the best role model. You all will recall her spat with Al gore and Lieberman at the 2000 Dem Convention over her plans to hold a high-profile fundraiser at the Playboy Mansion and, of course, her annual pin-up girl x-mas cards. She projects an image of frivolous hyper-sexuality that doesn’t serve our cause well. It is no surprise that Ms. Sanchez is now caught up in a steamy sex-and-influence scandal that will soon break into the major media.
