INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) has appointed Daniel O. Lopez as the Executive Director of the Indiana Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs (ICHLA). Lopez joins DWD from a senior position in the office of Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan. In addition to service as Executive Director at ICHLA, Lopez will also assist DWD’s policy department.
“Dan’s experience as a community leader will be an asset to the DWD policy team and the Hispanic and Latino Affairs Commission,” said Teresa Voors, Commissioner of Department of Workforce Development. “I look forward to working with him on issues of adult education, retraining, and addressing the needs of Indiana’s growing Hispanic and Latino community.”
As Executive Director of ICHLA, Lopez will be responsible for researching challenges and developing solutions to issues affecting the Hispanic/Latino community.
“Daniel understands the needs of the Hispanic community,” said Herb Hernandez, Chair of Indiana Commission for Hispanic and Latino Affairs. “His ties to the community and communication skills will help the commission effectively coordinate initiatives and meet our goal of improving the lives of Hispanic Hoosiers.”
Lopez served as Director of Legislation and Director of Communications for the City of Bloomington.
I’ve been an intern under Daniel since September and I can’t say enough about him. He’s going to be great for this new position, although we’ll miss him at city hall.
Good friend and true Latino!
