Finalists Announced for 2012 Billboard Latin Music Awards

Telemundo announced the finalists for the 2012 Billboard Latin Music Awards presented by State Farm® during a special live telecast of its morning show “Levantate.”  Don Omar, Pitbull, Prince Royce, Mana, Romeo Santos, Shakira and Wisin & Yandel, are among the top finalists competing in multiple categories. Daddy Yankee, Juanes and Jenni Rivera make up the initial line-up of leading musical acts confirmed to perform.  The awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 26 at BankUnited Center at the University of Miami in Florida and will be produced and broadcast live in HD by Telemundo.  The complete list of finalists, in addition to unlimited and exclusive access to this year’s event, can be found below, as well at www.telemundo.com, the official website of the 2012 Billboard Latin Music Awards presented by State Farm.

Leading all artists as a 16-time finalist in 14 categories is Don Omar who is up for awards in major categories including Songs Artist of the Year, Male; Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; Tropical Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; Latin Rhythm Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; Latin Rhythm Albums Artist of the Year, Solo and Social Artist of the Year. The album “Don Omar Presents: Meet The Orphans: The King Is Back” is up for Latin Rhythm Album of the Year and his hit song “Taboo” competes against his own collaboration with Lucenzo “Danza Kuduro” in the coveted Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year categories. “Taboo” also competes for Airplay Song of the Year and Latin Pop Song of the Year; while “Danza Kuduro” is also up for Song of the Year, Vocal Event; Digital Song of the Year and Tropical Song of the Year.

Transcending cultures and languages, and known for successful collaborations with other artists; Pitbull, the self-proclaimed “Mr. 305” for his Miami roots is a 14-time finalist in twelve categories including Songs Artist of the Year, Male; Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; Latin Rhythm Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; Latin Rhythm Albums Artist of the Year, Solo and Social Artist of the Year. The song “Give Me Everything”, his collaboration with Ne-Yo, Afrojack and Nayer, is up for Song of the Year; Song of the Year, Vocal Event; Airplay Song of the Year and Latin Pop Song of the Year. His song “Bon Bon” vies for Digital Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year. The album ‘Armando” competes for Latin Rhythm Album of the Year and Jenifer Lopez’ song featuring Pitbull “Ven A Bailar” is finalist for Song of the Year, Vocal Event and Latin Pop Song of the Year.

Prince Royce, a recipient of the 2011 Billboard Latin Music Award for Latin Artist of the Year, New, continued his success in 2012 with his album “Prince Royce” and the single “Corazon Sin Cara,” and is now a finalist in 12 categories including: Artist of the Year; Song of the Year; Songs Artist of the Year, Male; Airplay Song of the Year; Album of the Year; Albums Artist of the Year, Male; Digital Album of the Year; Tropical Song of the Year; Tropical Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; Tropical Album of the Year; Tropical Albums Artist of the Year, Solo and Songwriter of the Year.

After the release of their single “Lluvia y corazón” during the 2011 Billboard Latin Music Awards, Mexican rock band Maná enjoyed great success, and they are 11-time finalists this year. The group competes for the following awards: Artist of the Year; Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Tropical Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and Touring Artist of the Year.  Mana’s album “Drama y Luz” vies for Album of the Year; Digital Album of the Year and Latin Pop Album of the Year. The album’s first single “Lluvia Al Corazon” is up for Latin Pop Song of the Year.  In addition, Fher Olvera, Mana’s lead singer, is a finalist for Songwriter of the Year.

Bachata superstar singer and songwriter Romeo Santos, also the lead vocalist of Aventura, had a successful year as a solo artist. He is a 10-time finalist including Artist of the Year; Albums Artist of the Year, Male; Tropical Songs Artist of the Year, Solo and Tropical Albums Artist of the Year, Solo. His debut solo album “Formula: Vol. 1” contends for Album of the Year; Digital Album of the Year and Tropical Album of the Year. Romeo Santos’ song “Promise,” featuring Usher, vies for Song of the Year, Vocal Event and Tropical Song of the Year; also the single “You” is finalist for Tropical Song of the Year.

International leading female singer Shakira is up for 10 awards in nine categories including, Artist of the Year; Songs Artist of the Year, Female; Albums Artist of the Year, Female; Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year, Solo; Tropical Songs Artist of the Year, Solo and Social Artist of the Year. Her album “Sale El Sol” competes for Digital Album of the Year. In the songs categories, “Loca” featuring El Cata and “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” featuring Freshlyground vies for Digital Song of the Year.

Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel is competing for eight awards including Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Tropical Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Latin Rhythm Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and Latin Rhythm Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group. Their album, “Los Vaqueros: El Regreso” is competing for Latin Rhythm Album of the Year, and their song, “Estoy Enamorado,” is a finalist for Latin Rhythm Song of the Year.

Internationally renowned Enrique Iglesias is up for six awards including Songs Artist of the Year, Male; Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Solo; Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year, Solo; Touring Artist of the Year and Social Artist of the Year.  His album “Euphoria” competes for Latin Pop Album of the Year.

Finalists up for five awards include, La Adictiva Banda San Jose de Mesillas and Lucenzo.  La Adictiva Banda San Jose de Mesillas competes in the categories of Artist of the Year, New; Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and Regional Mexican Songs Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; and their song “Te Amo y Te Amo” is up for Airplay Song of the Year and Regional Mexican Song of the Year. Lucenzo, with the song “Danza Kuduro,” a collaboration with Don Omar, vies for Song of the Year; Song of the Year, Vocal Event; Digital Song of the Year; Tropical Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year.

Finalists up for four awards include Afrojack, Cristian Castro, Gerardo Ortiz, Julion Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda, Nayer and Ne-Yo. Among those up for three awards are Aventura, Camila, Chino & Nacho, Jenni Rivera, Jennifer Lopez, Los Bukis, Ricky Martin and Tito “El Bambino.” Meanwhile, Alexis & Fido, Daddy Yankee, Espinoza Paz, Fidel Rueda, Hector Acosta, Il Volo, La Original Banda el Limon de Salvador Lizarraga, Larry Hernandez, Los Tigres Del Norte, Reik, RKM & Ken-Y and Usher are finalists for two awards each.
