Telemundo and Sony Pictures Television sign a three-year production agreement

Telemundo and Sony Pictures Television announced a three-year agreement through which Sony Pictures Television will produce one primetime series per year for Telemundo in the U.S.

Telemundo’s international sales division, Telemundo Internacional, will distribute the series worldwide.

“We are very proud to enter this agreement with Sony Pictures Television to produce scripted content with the highest quality standards and talent selection. This agreement will provide us with appealing and attractive content at the level our international clients have come to expect from Telemundo Internacional,” said Marcos Santana, president, Telemundo International.

“We look forward to working with Telemundo in the coming years to bring these three new primetime series to life,” said Angélica Guerra, senior vice president and managing director of Production for Latin America and U.S. Hispanic for Sony Pictures Television.

As part of the agreement, Sony Pictures Television’s production company Teleset will produce the series in Mexico in association with Telemundo Studios. Production of the first series will kick off in early 2015.

Sony Debuts Latin American Online Entertainment Hub

Yesterday Sony Pictures Television debuted its online platform for Latin America, featuring a new tool for advertisers to integrate their products to an array of online video content. “Advertisers will now have the opportunity to connect their brand with rich engaging content,” said Irving Plonskier, SVP and general manager of Sony Pictures Television ad sales for Latin America.

The new online division will be led by Juan Carlos Sanchez, ad sales business development director at SPT Ad Sales Latin America.

Like most media companies, SPT recognizes the growing prominence of Web content worldwide. Indeed, according to a recent Nielsen report, 70% of the world’s consumers spent time watching online videos in March. To get in on the action, SPT is pursuing a strategy that hinges on original Web series, which seek to attract advertisers with the promise of presenting their products through video pre-rolls and post-rolls — between five and thirty seconds.

“We’ve noticed an increasing trend by Latin American consumers, even more than in Europe and the USA, in repeatedly going to the Internet in search of high-quality entertainment videos,” added Plonskier. “This phenomenon has created a direct and sophisticated alternate point of contact between brands and consumers.” (more…)

PapiBlogger’s epic 10,000-mile family roadtrip becomes major Hispanic social media experiment

In 1903, when the entire United States had but 150 miles of paved roads, Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson set off from San Francisco in a 20-horsepower Winton touring car hoping to become the first person to cross the U.S. in what was then dubbed a “horseless carriage.”  Sixty-three days later, after many trials and tribulations, Dr. Jackson, his co-driver Sewall Crocker and their bulldog Bud made it to New York City.

More than 100 years later, a Miami family of five is about to embark on what might be this century’s epic U.S. family road trip.  Starting on Father’s Day, founder and father of three Manny Ruiz, his wife Angela and their children Briani (1), Elena (6) and Jonathan (10) will embark on a 10,000-mile PapiBlogger Family Road Trip that will circle the four corners of the continental United States.
