NCLR to make special announcement about its 2016 Annual Conference in Orlando

Mayor Buddy Dyer will join NCLR (National Council of La Raza) President and CEO Janet Murguía and leaders from Orlando’s Latino community at Acacia’s El Centro Borinqueño for a press briefing on Wednesday, June 29. NCLR will make a special announcement regarding its upcoming Annual Conference in Orlando and will highlight the events, speakers and activities for the leading Latino event in the nation, which will be held July 23–26 in the Orange County Convention Center. The briefing—held at 10 a.m.at 1865 N. Econlockhatchee Trail—will offer reporters a preview of the 2016 NCLR Annual Conference, presented by Target and Toyota, and the 2016 National Latino Family Expo®, presented by UPS and Sunshine Health.

The 2016 NCLR Annual Conference theme—Act, Participate, Vote—will carry throughout the town halls and panels, in which issues such as job creation, education, health care, immigration and others will be viewed through the lens of increasing civic engagement within the Latino community. The spotlight this year will also be on Puerto Rico’s economic and social crisis, the growing Puerto Rican electorate in Florida—a swing state in recent national elections—and will honor victims of the recent horrific act of terror that claimed the lives of so many LGBT Latinos.

Previous guests of the yearly event have included President Barack Obama, U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro, Sen. John McCain, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, and legendary entertainer Rita Moreno. The National Latino Family Expo—free of cost and open to the public—is one of the largest events in the country focused on resources and activities for the Latino family.
