WGBH builds on its 34-year history of producing Latino & Multicultural programming with new series “Neighborhood Kitchens”

WGBH’s La Plaza team has a new offering –Neighborhood Kitchens, premiering Sunday, June 17 at 6:30pm. Hosted by newcomer Margarita Martinez, the series takes viewers on a culinary tour of Boston’s neighborhoods, cooking with, and learning from, the influential chefs who have spent years perfecting cuisine from around the world and introducing it to the region.  The series shows how these ethnic restaurants have, in many ways, become the destination spots in their own neighborhoods.

From a Peruvian interpretation of Italian cuisine in Boston’s North End, to a taste of Brazil in Cambridge, to a Mexican favorite in Lawrence, viewers travel with Margarita across the region to discover hidden gems, sometimes right in their backyards.  “Boston is so culturally diverse, and the culinary scene is no exception,” says series producer Patricia Alvarado Núñez. “We want to introduce people to the various foods and cuisine that are available to them – without a passport!”

A companion website, wgbh.org/NeighborhoodKitchens, will feature full recipes, behind-the-scenes photos and stories from each episode, in-depth profiles on each of the chefs featured on the series, interactive boards for viewers to leave comments and recipes of their own, and more.
