Comcast promises viewers a tech-savvy Olympics viewing experience
The Olympic Games bring the world together like nothing else can. This August, Comcast will continue to raise the bar and revolutionize the Olympics viewing experience by delivering compelling stories to viewers in more ways, across new platforms, and through new experiences.
With Hispanic costumers in mind, Comcast will deliver a revolutionary viewing experience in their language of choice while simultaneously bringing every minute of every sporting event into one place. More than 6000 hours of live, on-demand, and online content will be available to watch across 11 broadcast networks (that can be set to English and Spanish); across mobile and desktop devices; across devices via XfinityTV.com, NBCOlympics.com and the Xfinity TV and NBC Sports apps; and on new platforms like Buzzfeed and Snapchat, with whom Comcast is partnering up to create and distribute a new short-form of digital content to reach a new generation of Olympic viewers.
The X1 platform will give Hispanic users access to the most choices and the most advanced technology with the first comprehensive and fully integrated Olympics destination on their TV set. Viewers will have a personalized dashboard that seamlessly integrates live television, web content, and athlete’s profiles and real-time stats. Here, users will also have the ability to follow their favorite nations, teams and individuals. This revolutionary Olympics dashboard comes together using all the following customizable and in-depth user-friendly features.
o Front Row to Rio: This is the ultimate Olympics destination and the front face of the Olympics dashboard. Here, all of NBCUniversal and Telemundo’s award-winning Olympics programming is simultaneously united with the exclusive live streaming of every sporting event not available anywhere else. Users can easily and instantly access real-time Olympic coverage as well as personalized content that includes new tips and tricks for the use of the X1 platform. This feature is available in both English and Spanish and can be accessed by saying “Front Row to Rio” or “Olympics” into the X1 Voice Remote.
o Voice Search: The X1 Voice Remote provides viewers with one powerful tool to quickly and easily search, discover and navigate the entire Olympics experience with just the sound of their voice. The same remote is so accurate that recognizes a variety of accents and regionalisms in both English and Spanish.
This means that users can speak things like “gymnastics” or “how is the USA doing?” and they will be taken to the appropriate channel or given the appropriate real-time information.
o Favorites: Viewers can choose to follow their favorite athletes, teams, and nations in every event as well to be updated in real-time with the exact statistics of each competition. The system works by adding a bookmark for a quick and easy access via the For You section of Xfinity On Demand. The Favorites menu can also be accessed with simple voice commands, in either language, such as “Show me my favorites.”
o Must See Moments: Each day, Comcast will provide several tune-in notifications for marquee Olympic events that viewers won’t want to miss. Curated in partnership with NBC, the Must See Moments notifications will happen in real-time. Customers can sign-up during the Olympic trials via the X1 sports app or via the Front Row to Rio section.
o Rio Guide: X1 customers will be able to quickly find live Olympics programming by clicking the “Guide” button twice and selecting “Rio 2016.” Olympics programming airing on NBC, NBC Sports Network, Bravo, CNBC, Golf Channel, MSNBC, NBC Universo, Telemundo, and USA Network will be available in this guide.
o Primetime On Demand: In addition to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, every episode of the full NBC Primetime and Telemundo late night shows will be available the next day on Xfinity On Demand, with the flexibility to view particular segments or the entire show.
o NBC Sports App: For the first time, all of the online streaming content from the NBC Sports Live Extra app will be integrated into the X1 experience for viewers to easily search, discover and tune.
o X1 Sports App for The Olympics: A first-of-its-kind Olympics companion TV experience that will enable users to search and explore the latest medal counts, live results and scores, and real-time stats of all of the events. Seamlessly integrated into the X1 experience, it will allow viewers to browse all live and online streamed programming schedules, tune to any event, or watch the latest highlights of their performances on demand.
o Viewing Options: When watching a sporting event with more than one viewing option (such as more than one broadcast or online live stream of the same event) viewers can select which way to watch. For example, Spanish-speaking customers could choose to view the Opening and Closing ceremonies in Spanish via the SAP option on NBC or just tune-in to Telemundo, or if the user is interested in watching the U.S. gymnastics team he or she could select from the live broadcast of the floor routines on NBC, the online live stream of the balance beam, or the online live stream of the uneven bars.
